Why Wheels Need To Be Aligned?

All wheeled vehicles need to have perfectly aligned wheels. One of the main reasons why a car's wheel needs to be aligned is to ensure the good handling of the vehicle. If the wheel is not aligned, you can experience vibrations and shaking on the steering wheel or seats, as well as pull to the side when you are driving. It can also cause excessive tire wear and steering problems. Hence, the primary purpose of aligning the wheel is to extend the tread life of the tire and keep the vehicle driving straight and level to the road.

A regular wheel alignment should be part of your auto maintenance routine. Basically, the aligning of the wheel consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other.By doing so, you can minimize the rolling resistance and eventually save gas. Wheels that are out of alignment can be stressful to other parts of your car. The shaking and vibrating can damage various components of the car including your brakes and engine. In short, having your car wheel aligned can save you tons of money.

The alignment of a wheel should match the manufacturer's specifications. Visit a professional mechanic to make sure your car gets the right alignment. There are three factors involved in setting the alignment to specification, namely the caster, camber and toe. The caster is the angle of the steering axis which is important to the directional steering of the vehicle. The camber describes the inward or outward tilt of the tire which is viewed from the front of the vehicle. This one affects the wear caused in the tire so it can also be set according to driving habits. Lastly, the toe measures whether the fronts of the tires are closer or farther apart than the rear tires.
