ELECTRIC DOG FENCES – WIRE GUIDE

Do not know how much wire to use? Want to know what size wire to use? Not sure what type of wire to use? Do not panic. Most of our Electric Dog Fences come with at least a standard 500 feet of wire. Also, there is only 1 type of wire that can be used for our in-ground systems and in only 2 sizes that will work properly. In this section, we will go over how much wire you will need for your yard and when to use which wire.

What type of wire to use?

You can only use burial approved boundary wires. Since this wire is going to be in the ground and exposed to the elements, it is very important that the wire used be waterproof and durable. Wires that are burial approved have a Polyurethane coat that makes it waterproof and a solid copper coat for efficiency.

Use 20-Gauge if:
» Yards with smooth, loose soil
» If laying the wire near a fence
» If the yard has few trees and vegetation

Use 18-Gauge if:
» Rocky soil is present
» If installing the wire above ground
» If the yard has many trees and vegetation
